Dear SciServer users

I wanted to send you a quick mail about new features on the MPE SciServer, a link to a hopefully helpful document and some information about upcoming maintenance.

You might have noticed that a new button has appeared on the SciServer dashboard recently.
With the addition of the CasJobs service the SciServer now has a integrated database server which can be accessed both though the CasJobs web app and though the SciServer python (or R) API.
Currently the only database on the server is SDSS DR16, but more will follow soon. In fact if you want to see a particular external catalog hosted locally or have your own database you would like to host, let me know.

With the addition of its last core feature the focus now shifts more to help you getting the most out of the system and making it a useful tool for your work.
To that end I have written a "Getting Started" help document for the SciServer you can download here:
https://datashare.mpcdf.mpg.de/s/1e0CF3yRNcgDL4V <https://datashare.mpcdf.mpg.de/s/1e0CF3yRNcgDL4V>
The document should hopefully help you get an overview over the various components of the SciServer and how they interact which each other.
I would love feedback if you find anything unclear in the text or if information you would like to know is missing.

Lastly I wanted to warn you that I am extending the space available to the Compute Containers in the next days.
I hope to be able to do this transparently, but it is possible I may have to stop or recycle some containers.
Please let me know in case this poses a problem for you (for example if you installed additional software in your container)

cheers
Jonas
