Dear All

I have set up this mailing in order to be able to reach all the users of the MPE SciServer.
The idea is to keep the amount of mails to the absolute minimum and only inform you about major changes and about downtimes (expected or unexpected…)

In fact there have have been some short downtimes recently to apply a number of fixes:
- The main menu (Dashboard) has been cleaned up a bit and now only contains buttons which actually can be used.
- The file system for the users directories has been moved to a new location to ensure there is plenty of room for all your data.
- The batch processing facility (Compute Jobs) now works as it should: You can run longer processes either by executing command line commands (including your own scripts) or ipython notebooks directly.

The next major feature to be added should be the integration of the Database server so you can query catalogs directly and create your own tables.
Currently the only full Catalog in the Database is SDSS DR16, if you already foresee the need to have another catalog locally available please let me know so I can prioritise adding it.
Likewise if you find yourself missing any software or software libraries in the compute facilities please tell me so I can add them to the compute images.

Lastly: We are planning to have some mini SciServer workshops when people are back from holiday. The idea is to start with help with basic usage and quickly move towards more realistic examples and hopefully end up with specialised workflows for eROSITA and HETDEX users respectively.
If you already now have a regular task you would like to see ’translated’ into the SciServer context I would very much like to hear from you.

If you have any questions about the SciServer please don’t hesitate to contact me!

cheers
Jonas
