[Pythoneers] spred and mac python issues

I’m having some severe issues with running spred on my mac after installing macports python and using “port select python27 python." Despite having the spred python first in my path, my mac can now only find python where some mysterious macports config file says my mac should be looking for python. Does anyone know anything about this? I am kind of desperate to fix this before I leave for paranal on sunday.
